A more relevant evidence base

The proposed database would support lifecycle assessment across energy, agriculture, forestry and industry. Its purpose is to make Nepal-specific data more useful to producers, buyers and climate-finance participants.

Background: a more relevant evidence base

Lifecycle assessment follows the inputs and emissions associated with a product system. The proposed national layer would connect local emission factors, lifecycle calculations and product carbon-footprint information.

Two data infrastructures are becoming decisive internationally: compliance frameworks like the EU’s Digital Product Passport and the WBCSD PACT supply-chain carbon standard on one side, and foundational LCA data systems aligned with EU LCDN and ILCD standards on the other. Relying only on generic international datasets risks under-representing Nepal’s actual low-carbon profile; a national layer aligned with those same standards would let local data carry equal international weight.

Energy, material and production data would enter the system. Local factors, lifecycle calculations, data-quality checks and compatibility checks would support product footprints and more comparable information.

Services envisaged in the profile

The proposed operating model includes database subscriptions, carbon-factor and API services, product-footprint assessment, green-finance data and low-carbon data intelligence.

These are development directions. This website does not present a live national database, an API-key service or a validated emissions calculator. National data ownership and public governance remain central.

The network behind the proposal

The wider Treasure Carbon network is the largest shareholder in Tiangong LCA Data, an open Chinese carbon-footprint background database led by Tsinghua University with 43 international universities and research institutions and nearly 200 researchers. It is the third-largest database on the GLAD platform and the largest publicly accessible free LCA database, covering more than 70 industries and 1,200 products, and used by more than 150,000 visitors across 88 countries.

That existing infrastructure and standards experience—not a standing claim of Nepali government adoption—is what the proposal draws on.
